What to expect during a treatment
For a first time patient, I will take you through a brief consultation to ensure that you can have an ear candle treatment. If you or I are in any doubt at all, I will recommend that you consult your doctor before we can go ahead.
I will then help you onto the couch and make you comfortable. After fitting the ear candle into your ear and allowing it to burn down safely, I will clean any residue from your outer ear and massage around your neck and ear to enhance the effects of the treatment. When you first ear is finished I will then help you to turn and repeat.
The whole experience leaves you feeling wonderfully relaxed with a deep sense of security and happiness (something which is sadly lacking in our modern world).
If you have chosen a full treatment, you will then have a shoulders, neck and face massage to end the treatment.
This is something which I highly recommend as massaging certain pressure points helps to double the healing effects and will maintain the feeling for much longer. |
How do Ear Candles work?
The candle is in effect a chimney which creates a light suction action, which when combined with the movement of the flame which creates a vibration of the air in the ear candle, generates a massage like effect on the eardrum. This creates a soothing feeling of warmth and a balancing of pressure in the ears, forehead and sinuses.
It is a common misconception that the candle actually draws up hard and compact ear wax, this really is not the case. The candles may draw up loose or flaky ear wax, dead skin cells or yeast cells from the very external part of the ear, but the residue left inside the candle is actually beeswax and honey which has not burnt away completely.
The way ear candles actually work to remove wax from the ear or mucus from the sinuses is by way of sound frequency vibration. The sound of the flame creates a vibration on both the eardrum and inner ear bones that is like an inner ear massage. This sound then pushes further into the Eustachian tubes and the sinuses helping to push out any blocked pressure.
